Dark building masses and rooflines fill the lower half of the canvas, their forms built from heavy, almost geological slabs of blue-grey pigment. Small points of warmer light — window glow, a lit doorway — punctuate the dark without dissolving it. The night is not flat black but a layered surface of deep blue, slate, and ash, each tone slightly different, giving the air as much density as the architecture.

No figure appears in the scene. The urban space seems to breathe on its own in the hours when movement has stopped.
